Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1536
This hadith about vowing to walk to the House of Allah teaches that worship is not meant to become needless hardship. Anas narrated that a woman vowed to walk to the House of Allah. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was asked about it, and he said that Allah is in no need of her walking. He then ordered that she should ride. The text does not reject the House of Allah or the idea of worship. It rejects turning the journey into a form of strain when Allah has no need of that walking. The lesson is simple: a vow should not be treated as a way to harm oneself. The Prophet’s answer moved her from walking to riding.
What we learn from this hadith
- A woman vowed to walk to the House of Allah.
- The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said Allah had no need of her walking.
