Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1818
This Hadith about the believer eating with one intestine is narrated from Ibn 'Umar. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said that the disbeliever eats with seven intestines and the believer eats with one intestine. The wording gives a strong contrast between two ways of eating. The simple lesson often taken from the text is that the believer should not be driven by excess in food. The Hadith itself does not give a full diet rule or exact meal size. It gives a moral image connected to eating. The believer's eating is described with restraint, while the disbeliever's eating is described with much greater appetite. Abu 'Eisa graded this Hadith Hasan Sahih and mentioned other narrations on the topic from several Companions.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Hadith contrasts restraint in eating with excess.
- A believer should be mindful and not controlled by appetite.
- The wording teaches a moral lesson through the image of eating.
