Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1910
This hadith about love for children shows a tender and honest view of parenting. The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم came out while holding one of his daughter’s sons in his arms. He said that children make people stingy, cowardly, and ignorant, and that they are from Raihanillah. The wording points to two sides at once. Children can deeply affect a parent’s choices, fears, and attention. At the same time, they are spoken of with affection in the phrase Raihanillah. The hadith does not give a legal ruling here. It simply shows how strong love for children can be, and how the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم spoke while carrying a child from his family.
What we learn from this hadith
- Love for children can strongly affect a parent’s behavior.
- The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم is shown carrying a child from his family.
- Children are described with the affectionate phrase Raihanillah.
- The narration gives a balanced picture of family attachment.
