Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1935
This hadith about Muslim brotherhood lists several things that damage relationships. The Prophet says: do not cut off one another, do not desert one another, do not hate one another, and do not envy one another. Then he gives the positive command: be, O worshippers of Allah, brothers. The hadith also repeats the rule that it is not lawful for a Muslim to shun his brother for more than three days. The teaching is plain and practical. Brotherhood is not built only by kind words. It also requires avoiding the actions and feelings that break trust. The hadith warns against emotional distance, hatred, envy, and long silence between Muslims.
What we learn from this hadith
- Muslims are told not to cut off or desert one another.
- Hatred and envy are named as harmful to brotherhood.
- The hadith commands Muslims to be brothers as worshippers of Allah.
