Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1949
This Hadith about forgiving a servant gives a simple lesson in patience. A man came to the Prophet and asked how many times a servant should be pardoned. The Prophet was silent at first. The man asked again, and the Prophet answered, “Seventy times each day.” The wording teaches a generous habit of pardon. It does not describe the servant’s mistake or give a long legal discussion. It focuses on the attitude of the one who has authority: do not rush to anger, and do not make every mistake a reason for harshness. The number in the Hadith shows repeated forgiveness and self-control in daily dealings.
What we learn from this hadith
- A servant should be pardoned repeatedly, as stated in the Hadith.
- The one in authority should avoid quick anger over mistakes.
- Forgiveness is part of good treatment toward those under one’s care.
- Daily dealings need patience and self-control.
