Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 2103
This Hadith teaches a focused rule about maternal uncle inheritance in Islam. Umar sent a written message to Abu Ubaidah saying that the Messenger of Allah said Allah and His Messenger are responsible for the one who has no patron, and that the maternal uncle inherits from the one who has no heirs. The key phrase is “the one who has no heirs,” so the Hadith should not be stretched beyond that setting. It is about a person who does not have an ordinary heir available. In that case, the maternal uncle is mentioned as the one who inherits. The narration also shows how a Prophetic statement was passed on in official instruction, which helped settle practical inheritance questions.
What we learn from this hadith
- The maternal uncle is mentioned as an heir when no other heir exists.
- The ruling in the narration is linked to the phrase “the one who has no heirs.”
- Official written instruction was used to pass on a Prophetic ruling.
- Family ties beyond the closest heirs can matter in some inheritance cases.
