'Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Bakrah Narrated from:

The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "Shall I Not Inform You Of The Greatest Of The Major Sins?" They Said: "Of Course O Messenger Of Allah (S.A.W)!" He Said: "Shirk With Allah Disobeying Parents, And False Testimony." Or: "False Speech" He Said: "So The Messenger Of Allah (S.A.W) Would Not Stop Saying It Until We Said ( To Ourselves): 'I Wish He Would Be Quiet. "

Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 2301

This Hadith gives a clear warning about the greatest major sins. The Messenger of Allah asked the Companions if he should inform them about the greatest of the major sins. He then named three matters: shirk with Allah, disobeying parents, and false testimony or false speech. The repeated mention of false testimony shows how serious harmful speech can be when it is used to support lies. This is a strong hadith about major sins, especially false testimony in Islam. It teaches that belief, family duty, and truthful speech are not small matters. A Muslim should guard worship from shirk, treat parents with care, and stay away from words that twist the truth.

What we learn from this hadith

  • Shirk with Allah is named as one of the greatest major sins in this text.
  • Disobeying parents is placed beside very serious sins, showing its weight.
  • False testimony and false speech are treated as grave harms, not light mistakes.
  • The Prophet repeated the warning, showing that truthful speech deserves great care.
