Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 2372
This hadith about food and gratitude records An-Nu’man bin Bashir speaking to people who had food and drink as they wished. He reminded them that he had seen their Prophet (s.a.w) without enough daqal, dry dates, to fill his stomach. The point is a reminder, not a rejection of food and drink. It compares the comfort of the listeners with the simple and hungry condition he witnessed from the Prophet. For searches like hadith about Prophet hunger and hadith about gratitude for food, this narration teaches a quiet lesson: do not let comfort make the heart forget earlier hardship and the value of even basic food.
What we learn from this hadith
- Food and drink are blessings that should not be taken lightly.
- The Prophet experienced times when even dry dates were not enough.
- Remembering hardship can soften the heart in times of comfort.
