Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 2647
This hadith about going out seeking knowledge shows the honor of learning for the sake of religion. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said that whoever goes out in search of knowledge is in Allah's cause until he returns. The wording gives value to the whole journey, not only the final result. Leaving home, attending lessons, asking, reading, and returning can all become meaningful when the goal is true knowledge. The hadith does not say that every kind of showing off or argument is accepted. Other reports in this same batch warn against wrong intentions. Here, the focus is the honored state of a person who goes out to seek knowledge in a good way.
