Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 2679
This Hadith teaches a disciplined attitude toward prophetic instruction. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, Leave me with what I left you. When I narrate a hadith to you, take it from me. He then explained that people before were destroyed by excessive questioning and disagreeing with their prophets. The message is not against sincere learning. The wording warns against harmful excess in questioning and disagreement after guidance has come. A hadith about taking from the Prophet teaches respect, restraint, and acceptance. When the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم gives a command or narration, the believer should receive it seriously rather than turning religion into argument. The Hadith keeps the focus on obedience and avoiding needless conflict.
What we learn from this hadith
- When the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم narrates something, it should be accepted with seriousness.
- Excessive questioning can become harmful when it leads away from obedience.
- Disagreeing with prophets is mentioned as a cause of destruction for earlier people.
- A Muslim should seek knowledge without turning guidance into argument.
