Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 272
This Hadith states that when the worshipper prostrates, seven parts prostrate with him: his face, his hands, his knees, and his feet. The wording helps explain the physical form of sujud. Prostration is not only lowering the head. It involves specific parts of the body joining in the act of worship. The Hadith is often searched as the Hadith about seven bones in sujud or seven limbs of prostration. It gives a clear guide to what touches the ground during sujud. The lesson is also spiritual in a simple way: the whole body takes part in humility before Allah through a proper and complete prostration.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Hadith lists the face, hands, knees, and feet in sujud.
- Sujud involves several body parts, not only the head.
- The physical form of prostration has clear guidance.
- A proper sujud brings the body into an act of worship.
