Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 2833
This hadith about the most loved names to Allah is clear and easy to remember. Ibn Umar narrated that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, 'The most loved names to Allah are Abdullah and Abdur-Rahman.' The report gives two names and connects them with Allah's love. Abdullah means servant of Allah, and Abdur-Rahman means servant of the Most Merciful; according to Islamic scholars, these meanings are why such names are loved. The hadith itself does not give a long list of baby names, nor does it say that other good names are forbidden. Its direct teaching is that these two names hold a special rank. For parents searching for Islamic baby names, this narration is a key text.
What we learn from this hadith
- Abdullah and Abdur-Rahman are named as the most loved names to Allah in this hadith.
