Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 2840

This hadith about the names of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم lists several names and their meanings. The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said, 'I am Muhammad, I am Ahmad, I am Al-Mahi,' the one by whom Allah wipes out disbelief. He said, 'I am Al-Hashir,' the one whom people are gathered at his feet, and 'I am Al-Aqib,' the one after whom there is no prophet. The narration is important because it explains meanings from the Prophet's own words. The text does not say these are the only names he ever had; it says, 'I have some names.' So the explanation should focus on the names listed here and the meanings given in the hadith itself.
