Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 2853
This hadith about excessive speech warns against a showy way of speaking. Abdullah bin Amr narrated that the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said Allah detests the excessive man who moves his tongue around like a cow moves its tongue. The hadith is not a rejection of clear speech or useful explanation. It is a warning about a type of speech marked by excess, display, and an unpleasant use of the tongue. The phrase “excessive speech hadith” fits the core teaching. A person may speak well, but this narration reminds us not to turn speech into vanity or empty performance.
