Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 3385
This hadith about beginning dua with yourself reports a practice of the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم. Whenever he mentioned someone and made supplication for that person, he would begin with himself. The hadith does not say to ignore others. Rather, it shows an order in this specific act: he would start with himself and then make dua for the person mentioned. This teaches a simple way to include oneself while praying for others. It also shows care and balance in supplication. A person can ask Allah for good for himself and still make sincere dua for another Muslim. The main lesson is about the manners of dua, based only on the action described in the report.
