`Amr bin Malik Al-Janbi narrated that he heard Fadalah bin `Ubaid saying: “The Prophet (ﷺ) Heard A Man Supplicating In His Salat But He Did Not Send Salat Upon The Prophet (ﷺ), So The Prophet (ﷺ) Said: ‘This One Has Rushed.’ Then He Called Him And Said To Him, Or To Someone Other Than Him: ‘When One Of You Performs Salat, Then Let Him Begin By Expressing Gratitude To Allah And Praising Him. Then, Let Him Send Salat Upon The Prophet (ﷺ), Then Let Him Supplicate After That, Whatever He Wishes.’”

Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 3477
This Hadith gives a clear adab of dua inside prayer. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم heard a man supplicating in his salat, but the man had not sent salat upon the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said that he had rushed. He then called him, or spoke to someone else, and gave the order: when one of you prays, let him begin by expressing gratitude to Allah and praising Him, then let him send salat upon the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, then let him supplicate after that with whatever he wishes. The teaching is simple and practical. Dua is not only asking for needs. It should be opened with praise of Allah and salat upon the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم, then the person may ask.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Hadith warns against rushing in supplication.
- Supplication should begin with gratitude and praise of Allah.
- Sending salat upon the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم is placed before personal requests.
