Khaithamah bin Abi Sabrah Narrated from:

I Came To Al-Madinah, So I Asked Allah To Make It Easy For Me To Sit With One Who Is Righteous. He Made Abu Hurairah Accessible To Me, So I Sat With Him And Said To Him: 'Indeed, I Asked Allah To Make It Easy For Me To Sit With One Who Is Righteous, And It Is To You That I Was Guided.' So He Said To Me: 'From Where Are You?'I Said: 'From The People Of Al-Kufah, I Came To Search Out Good And To Seek It.' So He Said: 'Is There Not Among You Sa'D Bin Malik Whose Supplication Is Answered, Ibn Mas'Ud, The One Who Used To Carry The Water For Purification And The Sandals Of The Messenger Of Allah (ﷺ), And Hudhaifah, The Keeper Of The Secrets Of The Messenger Of Allah (ﷺ), And 'Ammar Whom Allah Has Guarded From Shaitan Upon The Tongue Of His Prophet, And Salman The Companion Of The Two Books?'

Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 3811

This Hadith about righteous company begins with Khaithamah coming to Madinah and asking Allah to make it easy for him to sit with someone righteous. He was guided to Abu Hurairah. When he said he had come from Kufa to seek good, Abu Hurairah reminded him that Kufa already had people of great virtue. He named Sad bin Malik, Ibn Masud, Hudhaifah, Ammar, and Salman, mentioning a special quality for each. The lesson is gentle and practical. Seeking good is praised, but sometimes a person may overlook righteous people already near him. The Hadith also shows how companions recognized each other’s virtues without turning the matter into pride.

What we learn from this hadith

  • It is good to ask Allah for righteous company.
  • A seeker of good should value righteous people nearby.
  • Abu Hurairah mentioned several companions with known virtues.
  • The Hadith teaches respect for people of faith and service.
