Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 3824
This hadith about teach him Al-Hikmah is short but very meaningful. Ibn Abbas says that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم pulled him close and said, O Allah, teach him Al-Hikmah. The action and the dua both matter in the text. Pulling him close shows care and personal attention. The supplication shows that wisdom comes from Allah. The narration does not explain every meaning of Al-Hikmah in detail, so it is safest to keep the meaning close to the translation: wisdom. For anyone searching for the Ibn Abbas wisdom hadith, this report highlights a beautiful moment where the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم cared for a young companion and asked Allah to grant him wise understanding.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم showed personal care by pulling Ibn Abbas close.
- Wisdom is something a believer may ask Allah to grant.
