Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 722
This narration gives another chain for the same or similar hadith about forgetfully eating or drinking while fasting. Its main value is that it supports the same teaching found in the previous report: a person who eats or drinks because he forgot has not broken the fast. The added notes in the Arabic text also show that Abu Isa called the hadith hasan sahih and mentioned that many people of knowledge acted on this ruling. The explanation should stay within that point. This is not about someone who knowingly eats during Ramadan. It is about a fasting person who forgets. The message is calm and practical: when the act was truly forgetful, the fast is not treated as broken.
What we learn from this hadith
- A second chain can strengthen the reader’s confidence in the reported meaning.
- Forgetful eating or drinking is different from deliberate breaking of the fast.
- The text records that many scholars acted on this understanding.
- The hadith keeps the focus on mercy for an unplanned mistake.
