Abu Hurairah Narrated from:
The Messenger Of Allah Would Encourage The Night Prayer In Ramadan Without Firmly Ordering It, And He Would Say: "Whoever Stands (In The Night Prayer) For Ramadan With Faith And Seeking The Reward (From Allah), Then He Will Be Forgiven What Has Preceded Of His Sins.' So The Messenger Of Allah Died And The Matter Was Like That. Then The Matter Was The Same During The Khilafah Of Abu Bakr And It Continued During A Portion Of The Khilafah Of Umar Bin Al-Khattab."

Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 808
This Hadith about Qiyam Ramadan with faith explains how the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم encouraged night prayer in Ramadan without making it a firm command. Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم would urge people toward standing in prayer during Ramadan and would say that whoever stands in Ramadan with faith and seeking reward from Allah will have his previous sins forgiven. The report also says this remained the situation during the Prophet’s صلى الله عليه وسلم life, during the caliphate of Abu Bakr, and for a portion of Umar’s caliphate. The main lesson is sincere Ramadan worship. The phrase with faith and seeking reward shows that the act is not only physical prayer; it is prayer done with belief and hope in Allah’s reward.
