Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 930
This hadith brings Hajj and Umrah together in the case of an elderly father. Abu Razin Al-Uqaili told the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم that his father was old and unable to perform Hajj, Umrah, or even travel. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم replied, "Perform Hajj on behalf of your father and perform Umrah." The wording is important because it mentions both Hajj and Umrah, and it ties the permission to real inability to travel. The report also notes that Abu Razin's name was Laqit bin Amir. For readers searching proxy Umrah hadith, this is a direct text about doing both rites for an unable parent.
What we learn from this hadith
- The report mentions both Hajj and Umrah on behalf of an elderly father.
- The father was unable to perform the rites or undertake the journey.
- The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم gave a direct instruction to perform them for him.
- The narration connects help for parents with acts of pilgrimage.
