حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ النُّفَيْلِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ، قَالَ بَيْنَا أَنَا أَسِيرُ، مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بَيْنَ الْجُحْفَةِ وَالأَبْوَاءِ إِذْ غَشِيَتْنَا رِيحٌ وَظُلْمَةٌ شَدِيدَةٌ فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَتَعَوَّذُ بِـ { أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ } وَ { أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ } وَيَقُولُ " يَا عُقْبَةُ تَعَوَّذْ بِهِمَا فَمَا تَعَوَّذَ مُتَعَوِّذٌ بِمِثْلِهِمَا " . قَالَ وَسَمِعْتُهُ يَؤُمُّنَا بِهِمَا فِي الصَّلاَةِ .
'Uqbah bin 'Amir Narrated from:
White I was travelling with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) between al-Juhfah and al-Abwa', a wind and intense darkness enveloped us, whereupon the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) began to seek refuge in Allah, reciting: "I seek refuge in the Lord of the dawn," and "I seek refuge in the Lord of men." He then said: Uqbah, use them when seeking refuge in Allah, for no one can use anything to compare with them for the purpose. Uqbah added: I heard him reciting them when he led the people in prayer.

Summary of Sunan Abi Dawud Hadith 1463
This hadith teaches a direct way to seek refuge in Allah through Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas. Uqbah ibn Amir was travelling with the Messenger of Allah between al-Juhfah and al-Abwa. A strong wind and deep darkness surrounded them. At that moment, the Prophet began seeking refuge by reciting these two surahs. He then told Uqbah to use them when seeking refuge in Allah, saying that no one could use anything like them for that purpose. Uqbah also heard the Prophet recite them while leading people in prayer. The hadith keeps the teaching simple: when fear, darkness, or harm is felt, these two surahs are a strong form of seeking protection from Allah.
