Summary of Sunan Abi Dawud Hadith 1534
This hadith about dua for an absent brother teaches sincere care for another Muslim. Abu al-Darda' heard the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم say that when a Muslim supplicates for his absent brother, the angels say: Amin, and may you receive the like. The phrase "absent brother" shows that the prayer is made when the other person is not present. That makes the dua free from show and close to sincerity. The hadith also gives a beautiful response from the angels: they ask that the supplicating person receive the same. The main lesson is to make good dua for others, even when they do not hear it.
What we learn from this hadith
- The hadith encourages making dua for a Muslim brother in his absence.
- The angels say Amin to that supplication.
- The angels also ask that the supplicating person receive the like.
