34/10. Chapter:

Trading in sea

وَقَالَ مَطَرٌ لاَ بَأْسَ بِهِ وَمَا ذَكَرَهُ اللَّهُ فِي الْقُرْآنِ إِلاَّ بِحَقٍّ ثُمَّ تَلاَ: {وَتَرَى الْفُلْكَ مَوَاخِرَ فِيهِ وَلِتَبْتَغُوا مِنْ فَضْلِهِ} وَالْفُلْكُ السُّفُنُ، الْوَاحِدُ وَالْجَمْعُ سَوَاءٌ. وَقَالَ مُجَاهِدٌ تَمْخَرُ السُّفُنُ الرِّيحَ وَلاَ تَمْخَرُ الرِّيحَ مِنَ السُّفُنِ إِلاَّ الْفُلْكُ الْعِظَامُ.And Matar said, “There is no harm in it, and whatever Allah has mentioned about it in the Qur’an, is but the truth.” Then he (Matar) recited: “...And you see the ships ploughing through it, that you may seek (thus) of His Bounty (by transporting the goods from place to place)...” (V.16:14)

Sahih BukhariHadith Number 2063

وَقَالَ اللَّيْثُ حَدَّثَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ هُرْمُزَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ رَجُلاً مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، خَرَجَ فِي الْبَحْرِ فَقَضَى حَاجَتَهُ‏.‏ وَسَاقَ الْحَدِيثَ‏.‏ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ بِهَذَا‏.‏

Abu Hurairah (ra) said, "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) mentioned a person from Bani Israel who travelled by sea and carried out his needs." Then he narrated the whole story. (See Hadith no. 2291)
