Sahih BukhariHadith Number 4195
Suwaid bin An-Nu`man Narrated from:
I went out in the company of the Prophet (ﷺ) in the year of Khaibar, and when we reached As Sahba' which is the lower part of Khaibar, the Prophet (ﷺ) offered the `Asr prayer and then asked the people to collect the journey food. Nothing was brought but Sawiq which the Prophet (ﷺ) ordered to be moistened with water, and then he ate it and we also ate it. Then he got up to offer the Maghrib prayer. He washed his mouth, and we too washed our mouths, and then he offered the prayer without repeating his ablution.

Summary of Sahih Bukhari Hadith 4195
This wudu after eating hadith gives a simple practice from the year of Khaibar. Suwaid bin An-Nu‘man said he went out with the Prophet At As-Sahba, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم prayed Asr and asked for food. Nothing was brought except Sawiq, so he ordered it to be moistened, then he ate and the companions ate. After that, he stood for Maghrib, rinsed his mouth, and the companions rinsed their mouths too. Then he prayed without repeating his ablution. The hadith is often searched by people asking whether eating breaks wudu. The text itself shows this case: after eating Sawiq, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم rinsed his mouth and prayed without a new wudu.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and companions ate simple journey food together.
- They rinsed their mouths after eating Sawiq.
- The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم prayed Maghrib without repeating ablution in this report.
- The companions followed his practice in rinsing their mouths.
