Sahih Bukhari 5301 — The Prophet's Advent and the Nearness of the Hour

Al-Li'an

Hadith About the Last Hour and the Prophet's Two-Finger Sign

Sahih BukhariHadith Number 5301

Sahl bin Sa`d As-Sa`idi Narrated from:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), holding out his middle and index fingers, said, "My advent and the Hour's are like this (or like these)," namely, the period between his era and the Hour is like the distance between those two fingers, i.e., very short.

Summary of Sahih Bukhari Hadith 5301

This hadith about the Last Hour gives a short but strong reminder. Allah's Messenger held out his middle and index fingers and said that his advent and the Hour were like those two fingers. The text explains that the time between his era and the Hour is very short, like the distance between the two fingers. The hadith does not give a date, and it does not tell people to guess the time. Its message is simpler: human life is serious, and the end is not something to treat as far away. For readers looking for a hadith about Qiyamah or the signs of the Hour, this narration points the heart toward readiness, awareness, and a sober view of time.

What we learn from this hadith

  • The Prophet used a clear hand gesture to teach the point.
  • The Hour is described as near in relation to his advent.
  • The hadith does not give a fixed date for the Hour.
  • The believer is reminded to take time and accountability seriously.
