حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ، مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ـ أَوْ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ ـ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ جَارِيَةً لِكَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ كَانَتْ تَرْعَى غَنَمًا بِسَلْعٍ، فَأُصِيبَتْ شَاةٌ مِنْهَا، فَأَدْرَكَتْهَا فَذَبَحَتْهَا بِحَجَرٍ، فَسُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ " كُلُوهَا ".
Narrated Mu`adh bin Sa`d or Sa`d bin Mu`adh: A slave girl belonging to Ka`b used to graze some sheep at Sl'a (mountain). Once one of her sheep was dying. She reached it (before it died) and slaughtered it with a stone. The Prophet (ﷺ) was asked, and he said, "Eat it."

This hadith gives another wording of the same practical case. A slave girl belonging to Ka`b was grazing sheep at Sl’a. One sheep was dying, so she reached it and slaughtered it with a stone. When the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was asked, he said, “Eat it.” The wording is simple and direct. It does not present the case as guessing or careless eating. The sheep was reached before death, slaughtered with a stone, and the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم gave permission to eat it.
