Sahih Bukhari : 7208
Sahih BukhariHadith Number 7208
Salama Narrated from:
We gave the oath of allegiance to the Prophet (ﷺ) under the tree. He said to me, "O Salama! Will you not give the oath of allegiance?" I replied, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! I have already given the oath of allegiance for the first time." He said, (Give it again) for the second time.

Summary of Sahih Bukhari Hadith 7208
This hadith about giving the pledge under the tree reports Salama's experience. He said that they gave allegiance to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم under the tree. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم then said to him, "O Salama! Will you not give the oath of allegiance?" Salama replied that he had already given it the first time. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم told him to give it again the second time. The text does not explain every reason for the repeat pledge, so the safest focus is the action itself: Salama had already pledged, and the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم asked him to renew or repeat that pledge. The hadith shows close obedience and the serious nature of allegiance.
What we learn from this hadith
- The companions gave allegiance to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم under the tree.
- Salama responded openly that he had already pledged.
- The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم asked him to give the pledge a second time.
- Allegiance was treated as a serious act of commitment.
