حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ، عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ، ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ إِذَا دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ يَقُولُ " بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَالسَّلاَمُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي وَافْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ " . وَإِذَا خَرَجَ قَالَ " بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَالسَّلاَمُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي وَافْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ فَضْلِكَ " .
Fatimah the daughter of the Messenger of Allah Narrated from:
It was narrated that Fatimah the daughter of the Messenger of Allah said: "Whenever the Messenger of Allah entered the mosque he would say: 'Bismillah, was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah, Allahummagh-firli dhunubi waftah li abwaba rahmatika. (In the Name of Allah, and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, forgive me my sins and open to me the gates of Your mercy).' When he left he would say: 'Bismillah, was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah, Allahummagh-firli dhunubi waftah li abwaba fadlika. (In the Name of Allah, and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, forgive me my sins and open to me the gates of Your bounty).'"

Summary of Sunan Ibn Majah Hadith 771
This Hadith teaches a beautiful mosque entry dua and mosque exit dua. Fatimah narrated that when the Messenger of Allah entered the mosque, he would say Bismillah, send peace upon the Messenger of Allah, ask Allah for forgiveness, and ask Him to open the gates of His mercy. When he left, he would again begin with Bismillah, send peace upon the Messenger of Allah, ask forgiveness, and ask Allah to open the gates of His bounty. The wording connects the mosque with mercy, forgiveness, and reliance on Allah. It also teaches that entering and leaving the masjid are moments for remembrance, not casual habits. A Muslim can turn even a doorway into a moment of dua.
What we learn from this hadith
- Say Bismillah and send peace upon the Messenger of Allah when entering and leaving.
- Ask Allah for forgiveness when going into and out of the mosque.
- Ask for Allah's mercy when entering the mosque.
- Ask for Allah's bounty when leaving the mosque.
