Mishkat al-MasabihHadith Number 5334
وَعَن مَحْمُود بن لبيد أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ: «إِنَّ أَخْوَفَ مَا أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمُ الشِّرْكُ الْأَصْغَرُ» قالول: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَمَا الشِّرْكُ الْأَصْغَرُ؟ قَالَ: «الرِّيَاءُ» . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ. وَزَادَ الْبَيْهَقِيُّ فِي «شُعَبِ الْإِيمَانِ»: " يَقُولُ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ يُجَازِي الْعِبَادَ بِأَعْمَالِهِمْ: اذْهَبُوا إِلَى الَّذِينَ كُنْتُمْ تُرَاؤُونَ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَانْظُرُوا هَلْ تَجِدُونَ عِنْدَهُمْ جَزَاءً وَخَيْرًا؟ "
Mahmud ibn Labid Narrated from:
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Surely, the most fearful thing which I ask you to fear (O Muslims) is polytheism of the lesser degree." They (the sahabah رضي الله عنه) asked him, "O Messenger of Allah, what is the polytheism of the lesser degree?" He said, "Riya (ostentation)' (or, ostentation)." According to Bayhaqi's addition: "Allah will say to them on the day when the creatures will be recompensed for their deeds, 'Go to those before whom you were ostentatious in the world. Then, see: do you find with them reward or any good (for you).' [2]
