Ibn 'Abbas Narrated from:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) transmitted it from the Blessed and Great Lord: Verily Allah recorded the good and the evil and then made it clear that he who intended good but did not do it, Allah recorded one complete good in his favour, but if he intended it and also did it, the Glorious and Great Allah recorded ten to seven hundred virtues and even more to his credit. But it he intended evil, but did not commit it, Allah wrote down full one good in his favour. If he intended that and also committed it, Allah made an entry of one evil against him.

Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 131a
Ibn Abbas reports from the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم, narrating from the Blessed and Great Lord, that Allah recorded good and evil and then made the matter clear. Whoever intends good but does not do it has one complete good recorded for him. If he intends it and does it, Allah records ten to seven hundred virtues and even more. If he intends evil but does not commit it, Allah writes one complete good for him. If he intends evil and does it, one evil is written. This hadith qudsi on good deeds is full of mercy, but it also keeps responsibility clear. Good should be intended and done; evil should be left.
What we learn from this hadith
- Allah has recorded good and evil and explained how they are written.
- An intended good deed not done is recorded as one complete good.
