Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 1656d
This narration says that when the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم returned from the Battle of Hunain, Umar asked him about a vow he had made during the days of Jahiliyya: I'tikaf for a day. The rest of the Hadith is said to be the same as the longer report. Because of that, the main teaching is not a new event. It is the same guidance on vow fulfilment. Umar had made a vow connected to worship, and he did not act on personal guesswork. He asked the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم. For readers searching for hadith about fulfilling vows, this report highlights the same simple point: ask for guidance and do what is right with the vow.
What we learn from this hadith
- Umar asked about a vow made before Islam.
- The vow involved observing I'tikaf for a day.
- The report links the question to the return from Hunain.
