Sahih MuslimHadith Number 1723b
Suwaid bin Ghafalah Narrated from:
I went out along with Zaid b. Suhan and Salman b. Rabi'a, and found a whip, the rest of the hadith is the same up to the words:" I made use of that." Shu'ba said: I heard him say after ten years, that he made an announcement of it for one year.

Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 1723b
Core topic: Lost Property. This report is a shorter chain-based narration of the same story about finding a whip. It repeats the main action up to the point where the found property was used after announcement. It also adds that Shu'ba later heard the narrator say the announcement was for one year. That detail is important for readers searching for the luqatah hadith because it highlights the time given for the owner to come forward. The Hadith does not encourage quick personal use of a found item. It points to a careful process: find it, announce it, wait, and only then benefit from it if no owner appears. The item remains tied to the right of its owner.
What we learn from this hadith
- The one-year announcement is a key part of handling lost property.
- A found item should not be rushed into personal use.
- The report supports careful memory of what was narrated.
- The owner’s right stays central in the process.
