حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا بُرَيْدٌ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " إِنِّي لأَعْرِفُ أَصْوَاتَ رُفْقَةِ الأَشْعَرِيِّينَ بِالْقُرْآنِ حِينَ يَدْخُلُونَ بِاللَّيْلِ وَأَعْرِفُ مَنَازِلَهُمْ مِنْ أَصْوَاتِهِمْ بِالْقُرْآنِ بِاللَّيْلِ وَإِنْ كُنْتُ لَمْ أَرَ مَنَازِلَهُمْ حِينَ نَزَلُوا بِالنَّهَارِ وَمِنْهُمْ حَكِيمٌ إِذَا لَقِيَ الْخَيْلَ - أَوْ قَالَ الْعَدُوَّ - قَالَ لَهُمْ إِنَّ أَصْحَابِي يَأْمُرُونَكُمْ أَنْ تَنْظُرُوهُمْ " .
Abu Musa Narrated from:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: I recognise the voice of the Ash'arites while they recite the Qur'an as they arrive during the night and I also recognise their station from the recital of the Qur'an during the night time, although I have not seen their encampments as they encamp during the day time. And there is a person amongst them, Hakim; when he encounters the horsemen or the enemies he says to them: My friends command you to wait for them.
[2] Hakîm ; scholars differ over whether this is a description or a name. If it were a description, then it means a wise man. In Al-Isâbah Al-Hâfiz Ibn Hajar said: "Hakîm Al-Ash'arî: I do not know of any information about him, except what occurs in the Two Sahîh , in the Hadîth of Abû Mûsâ Al-Ash'arî, who said: 'The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "I recognize the voices of a group of the Ash'arîs when they recite Qur'ān, when they enter at night," - meaning in the Masjid - "Among them is a Hakîm , who, when he meets the horsemen' - so he mentioned the Hadîth ." And Al-Hâfiz also said there: "Ibn At-Tîn, and others among those who explained Al-Bukhârî , said that his saying: 'Among them is a Hakîm ' is a description of a man among them, not a name. And this was reported by 'Iyâd from his Shaikh, Abû 'Alî As-Sadafî." An-Nawawî said similar to this.
