Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 2795b
This narration is another chain of the report from Khabbab. It adds that in the pre-Islamic days he worked as an ironsmith. He did work for Al-As b. Wa’il and then went to him to seek the payment of his wages. The rest is like the earlier narration, where Al-As linked repayment to Khabbab denying Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, and Khabbab refused. This version highlights a simple work setting: a worker asking for earned pay. Yet the matter turned into a test of faith. The hadith shows that belief should not be traded for wages, debt, or pressure from someone who has power over payment.
What we learn from this hadith
- Khabbab sought payment for work he had done.
- His right to wages became a test of faith.
- He did not deny the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم to gain payment.
- The narration preserves an added detail about his work as an ironsmith.
