حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ صَفْوَانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ، بْنِ حِرَاشٍ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ، قَالَ انْطَلَقْتُ مَعَهُ إِلَى حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ الْيَمَانِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عُقْبَةُ حَدِّثْنِي مَا سَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي الدَّجَّالِ . قَالَ " إِنَّ الدَّجَّالَ يَخْرُجُ وَإِنَّ مَعَهُ مَاءً وَنَارًا فَأَمَّا الَّذِي يَرَاهُ النَّاسُ مَاءً فَنَارٌ تُحْرِقُ وَأَمَّا الَّذِي يَرَاهُ النَّاسُ نَارًا فَمَاءٌ بَارِدٌ عَذْبٌ فَمَنْ أَدْرَكَ ذَلِكَ مِنْكُمْ فَلْيَقَعْ فِي الَّذِي يَرَاهُ نَارًا فَإِنَّهُ مَاءٌ عَذْبٌ طَيِّبٌ " . فَقَالَ عُقْبَةُ وَأَنَا قَدْ، سَمِعْتُهُ تَصْدِيقًا، لِحُذَيْفَةَ .
Uqba b. 'Amr Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari Narrated from:
I went to Hudhaifa b. Yaman and said to him: Narrate what you have heard from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) pertaining to the Dajjal. He said that the Dajjal would appear and there would be along with him water and fire and what the people would see as water that would be fire and that would burn and what would appear as fire that would be water and any one of you who would see that should plunge in that which he sees as fire for it would be sweet, pure water, and 'Uqba said: I also heard it, testifying Hudhaifa.

This Dajjal hadith explains the test in a very practical way. Abu Masud asked Hudhaifa to narrate what he heard from the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم about Dajjal. Hudhaifa said Dajjal would come with water and fire. What people see as water will be burning fire, and what they see as fire will be cold, sweet, pure water. Whoever reaches that time should enter what appears to be fire, because it is actually good water. Abu Masud then confirmed that he also heard the same report. The Hadith teaches that Dajjal’s trial will turn normal perception upside down, and believers must follow prophetic guidance.
