`Abdullah bin `Abbas Narrated from:

Abdullah b. 'Abbas reported that he said to the Mu'adhdhin on a rainy day: When you have announced" I testify that there is no god but Allah; I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah," do not say:" Come to the prayer," but make this announcement:" Say prayer in your houses." He (the narrator) said that the people disapproved of it. Ibn 'Abbas said: Are you astonished at it? He (the Holy Prophet), who is better than I, did it. Jumu'a prayer is no doubt obligatory, but I do not like that I should (force you) to come out and walk in mud and slippery ground.

Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 699a

This Hadith speaks about rain, Jumu'ah, and ease for people. Ibn 'Abbas told the Mu'adhdhin on a rainy day not to say, "Come to the prayer," after the testimony of faith, but to announce, "Say prayer in your houses." Some people disliked or questioned it. Ibn 'Abbas answered by saying that one better than him had done it, referring to the Prophet He also said Jumu'ah is obligatory, but he did not like forcing people to come out and walk through mud and slippery ground. The main lesson is not to treat hardship lightly. The Hadith shows concern for people while still respecting the status of Jumu'ah prayer.
