Sahih MuslimHadith Number 850a

Abu Hurairah Narrated from:

He who takes a bath on Friday, the bath which is obligatory after the sexual discharge and then goes (to the mosque), he is like one who offers a she-camel as a sacrifice, and he who comes at the second hour would be like one who offers a cow, and he who comes at the third hour is live one who offers a ram with horns, and he who comes at the fourth hour is like one who offers a hen, and he who comes at the fifth hour is like one who offers an egg. And when the Imam comes out, the angels are also present and listen to the mention of God (the sermon).

Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 850a

This hadith about coming early to Jumu'ah joins two actions: taking a Friday bath and going to the mosque early. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم compared the first arrival to offering a she-camel, then later arrivals to a cow, a horned ram, a hen, and an egg. The comparison shows that earlier arrival has a higher rank in this wording, without needing to add details beyond the text. The hadith also says that when the Imam comes out, the angels are present and listen to the mention of Allah in the sermon. So the message is clear: wash well, come early, and understand that the khutbah is a serious moment of remembrance.

What we learn from this hadith

  • Taking a Friday bath is mentioned before going to the mosque.
  • Earlier arrival is compared with greater offerings.
  • The Imam's arrival marks a change in the scene.
  • The angels are described as listening to the mention of Allah.
