Summary of Sahih Muslim Hadith 879a
This hadith about Friday Fajr recitation shows a clear practice of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم in two Friday prayers. Ibn Abbas reported that in the morning prayer on Friday, the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم used to recite Surah Alif-Lam-Mim Tanzil, meaning Surah As-Sajdah, and Surah Hal Ata, meaning Surah Al-Insan. The same report also says that in the Jumu'a prayer he used to recite Surah Al-Jumu'a and Surah Al-Munafiqin. The main teaching is simple: the Friday prayer had a known recitation pattern from the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. The hadith does not explain why these Surahs were chosen, so the explanation should stay with what is stated: these Surahs were recited in Friday Fajr and Jumu'a.
What we learn from this hadith
- The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم had a regular recitation for Friday Fajr mentioned in this report.
- Jumu'a prayer included Surah Al-Jumu'a and Surah Al-Munafiqin in this narration.
- The hadith keeps the focus on what was recited, not on added reasons outside the text.
