Summary of Sunan an-Nasai Hadith 3342
This Hadith about dowry in Islam is brief, but its message is clear. Anas reports that the Messenger of Allah manumitted Safiyyah and made that her dowry. The wording shows that her freedom itself was treated as the mahr. In a normal search for mahr hadith, people often look for gold, silver, or set amounts. This narration shows another form mentioned in the text: manumission joined with marriage. The report does not add extra details here, so the explanation should stay close to the words given. It highlights that the dowry in this case was not a separate payment. It was the act of freeing Safiyyah, which became the stated dowry for the marriage.
What we learn from this hadith
- The narration presents freedom as the dowry in Safiyyah’s marriage.
- The report links manumission with marriage in a direct way.
- A dowry may be described through a meaningful act in this text.
- The wording is short, so its teaching should be understood without adding details not mentioned.
