Summary of Sunan an-Nasai Hadith 3605
This hadith records Umar asking the Messenger of Allah about land he owned in Thamgh. The answer was brief and practical: preserve the original land and donate its fruits. The property itself was not to be used up as a one-time gift. Instead, it would remain productive, and what came from it would be made available for charitable purposes. According to Islamic scholars, this form of arrangement is commonly described as waqf. The wording also shows the value of asking for guidance when deciding how to use important property. Umar brought his question to the Prophet, and the reply gave him a way to combine the protection of the asset with continued giving.
What we learn from this hadith
- Land may be preserved while its produce is donated.
- A charitable plan can protect an asset from being used up at once.
- Productive wealth can provide repeated benefits.
- Seeking guidance is helpful when dedicating valuable property.
