Sunan an-NasaiHadith Number 3648

A'isha Narrated from:

When this verse- 'And warn your tribe (O Muhammad) of near kindred'- was revealed, the Messenger of Allah said: 'O Fatimah, daughter of Muhammad! O Safiyyah bint 'Abdul-Muttalib! O Banu 'Abdul-Muttalib! I cannot avail you anything before Allah; ask me for whatever you want of my wealth.'

Summary of Sunan an-Nasai Hadith 3648

In this narration, the Messenger of Allah speaks to Fatimah, Safiyyah, and Banu Abdul-Muttalib after the verse about warning near relatives was revealed. He tells them that he cannot avail them anything before Allah. He then says they may ask him for whatever they want from his wealth. This makes a clear distinction. He could offer worldly property, but he did not claim the power to remove their personal responsibility before Allah. The hadith warns against depending on family closeness for spiritual safety. It also shows honesty in family advice: the Prophet did not soften the main warning for those nearest to him. A person may receive love, wealth, or help from relatives, yet still must answer personally before Allah. That is the central message of this hadith.

What we learn from this hadith

  • Do not confuse worldly support with protection before Allah.
  • Close family ties do not remove personal accountability.
  • Speak honestly to relatives about faith and responsibility.
  • Offer lawful worldly help while keeping spiritual claims within the limits stated in the hadith.
