A'isha Narrated from:

Fatimah bint Abi Hubaish said to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): "O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), I do not become pure. Should I stop praying?" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "That is a vein and is not menstruation. When your period comes, stop praying, and when the same amount of time as your regular period has passed, then wash the blood from yourself and pray."

Summary of Sunan an-Nasai Hadith 366

This Hadith about Istihadah focuses on the amount of time of a woman's regular period. Fatimah bint Abi Hubaish said that she did not become pure and asked whether she should leave prayer. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) answered that the bleeding was a vein and not menstruation. He told her to stop praying when her period comes. Then, when the same amount of time as her regular period has passed, she should wash the blood from herself and pray. The main search intent here is Istihadah and regular period days. The Hadith gives a practical way to deal with ongoing bleeding by measuring it against the known period time mentioned in the text.

What we learn from this hadith

  • The Hadith mentions using the regular period length during ongoing bleeding.
  • Istihadah is described as a vein, not menstruation.
  • Prayer is stopped during the period days.
  • After that time passes, washing the blood and praying are mentioned.
