Summary of Sunan an-Nasai Hadith 4438
This short hadith gives a direct statement about an animal used as a target. Abu Thalabah reports that the Messenger of Allah said an animal taken as a target is not lawful. The core topic is the prohibition of target animals, meaning the narration rejects treating a living animal as an object for shooting and then regarding it as lawful food. The wording supplied is brief, so the explanation should remain brief in scope as well. It does not describe the weapon, the species, or the people involved. Readers searching for animal cruelty in Islam or the hadith against using animals as targets can take the stated rule from the text without inventing a separate event or adding an unstated exception.
What we learn from this hadith
- An animal taken as a target is described as not lawful.
- Living animals should not be treated as shooting targets.
- The rule is stated generally without naming a particular species.
- The brief wording should not be expanded with invented exceptions.
