Hadith About No Cutting for Produce Theft
Sunan an-Nasai : 4970
Sunan an-NasaiHadith Number 4970
Rafi' bin Khadij Narrated from:
I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'The hand is not to be cut off for (stealing) produce or the spadix of palm trees.'

Summary of Sunan an-Nasai Hadith 4970
This final parallel report in this set repeats that Rafi bin Khadij heard the Messenger of Allah say there is no cutting off for produce or the spadix of palm trees. The hadith about stealing produce is therefore preserved here with the same core wording. It gives a narrow point, not a broad speech about all theft. The right way to explain it is to keep the focus on the named items and the named penalty. This helps readers avoid confusion. The narration also shows that repeated chains can carry the same short teaching, giving students several routes for the same wording.
What we learn from this hadith
- The narration states that hand cutting does not apply to produce mentioned in the hadith.
- The text names two items clearly: produce and the spadix of palm trees.
- The report teaches care in applying legal penalties only where the text allows it.
