Authentic Hadiths on the Great Virtues of Hajj and Umrah
According to Islamic teachings found in these authentic narratives, the virtues of Hajj and Umrah are deeply tied to spiritual excellence and dedication. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) emphasized that performing an accepted Hajj, known as Hajj Mabrur, stands as one of the absolute best deeds a believer can accomplish, ranking closely alongside faith in Allah and His Messenger and striving in His cause. For women and others, the Prophet (ﷺ) highlighted that Hajj Mabrur serves as the ultimate and best form of Jihad. The companions, including Umar, also echoed this by describing the preparation for Hajj as embarking on one of the two types of Jihad. Furthermore, the practice of the Prophet (ﷺ) and his companions like Anas shows great humility and simplicity, as they performed their pilgrimage using basic provisions such as a simple camel packsaddle without showing any miserliness or excessive worldly luxury.
Narrated 'Aishah: The Prophet (ﷺ) sent my brother, 'Abdur Rahman with me to Tan'im for the 'Umra, and he made me ride on the packsaddle (of a camel). 'Umar said, "Be ready to travel for Hajj as it (Hajj) is one of the two kind of Jihad".
[1] Jihād literally means struggle and perseverance. Holy fighting against the enemies of Islām is also called Jihād . Hajj here is regarded as a kind of Jihād since one endures many difficulties and has to control one's desires and spend money on performing Hajj .Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 1516In-book reference : Book 25, Hadith 4USC-MSA web (English) reference : Vol. 2, Book 26, Hadith 591

Mujahid reported: I and 'Urwah b. Zubair entered the mosque and found 'Abdullah b. 'Umar sitting near the apartment of A'ishah and the people were observing the forenoon prayer (when the sun had sufficiently risen). We asked him about their prayer, and he said: It is bid'a (innovation), Urwah said to him: O Abu Abd al-Rahman, how many 'umrahs did Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) perform? He said: Four 'umrahs, one he performed during the month of Rajab. We were reluctant either to believe him or reject him. We heard the noise of brushing of her teeth by 'A'ishah in her apartment. 'Urwah said: Mother of the Faithful, are you not hearing what Abi 'Abd al-Rahman is saying? She said: What is he saying? Thereupon he ('Urwah) said: He (Ibn 'Umar) states that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) performed four 'umrahs and one of them during the month of Rajab. Thereupon she remarked: May Allah have mercy upon Abu 'Abd al-Rahman. Never did Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) perform 'Umrah in which he did not accompany him, and he (Allah's Apostle) never performed 'Umrah during the month of Rajab.
[1] In Fath Al-Bârî , Al-Hâfiz Ibn Hajar said: "Ibn 'Umar only rebuked their persistence with it and their public demonstration of it in the Masjid and praying it in congregation, not that the basis of the prayer contradicts the Sunnah."Reference : Sahih Muslim 1255aIn-book reference : Book 15, Hadith 243USC-MSA web (English) reference : Book 7, Hadith 2883
