Prophetic Hadiths on Dua for Protection
Seeking safety through supplication is a fundamental practice in Islam. The provided prophetic narratives highlight how the Messenger of Allah regularly sought refuge from specific internal and external harms. The Hadiths emphasize asking for safety against negative traits like cowardice and miserliness, physical tribulations such as the trials of old age or senility, and spiritual harms like the torment of the grave. The Prophet also taught companions to seek safety from the evil of their own physical senses, including hearing, sight, speech, and the desires of the heart. These texts demonstrate that making a targeted prayer for safety is an essential prophetic tradition for maintaining spiritual and physical well-being.

Khaula bint Hakim Sulamiyya reported: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When any one of you stays at a place, he should say:" I seek refuge in the Perfect Word of Allah from the evil of that He created." Nothing would then do him any harm until he moves from that place. Abu Huraira reported that a person came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and said:" Allah's Messenger, I was stung by a scorpion during the night. Thereupon he said: Had you recited these words in the evening:" I seek refuge in the Perfect Word of Allah from the evil of what He created," it would not have done any harm to you.
