Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1222

This hadith focuses on a specific market practice. The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said that the dweller of the town is not to sell for the Bedouin. The text does not give a long explanation here, but it places the rule under buying and selling. The point is tied to fair market conduct: a person with more local market knowledge should not step in in a way that changes the natural sale for the outsider. The hadith keeps trade from becoming controlled by those who already know the market better. It reminds buyers and sellers that Islamic business ethics are not only about price, but also about how the deal is arranged.

What we learn from this hadith

  • Local market knowledge should not be used in a way that harms fair dealing.
  • Trade should remain open and clear for people coming from outside the town.
  • A Muslim seller should think about fairness, not only profit.
  • Market rules in Islam protect both sides of a transaction.
