Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1228
This hadith speaks about two types of produce: grapes and grain. Anas narrated that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم prohibited selling grapes until they appear and selling grains until they become firm. The wording is clear and practical. Produce should not be sold when it is still too uncertain. Grapes need to show, and grains need to become firm before sale. Abu Eisa notes that this report is Hasan Gharib and mentions its route. The business lesson remains easy to understand from the text: do not build a sale on produce whose condition has not yet become clear enough for both sides to understand what is being bought and sold.
What we learn from this hadith
- Grapes should not be sold before they appear clearly.
- Grain should not be sold before it becomes firm.
- Produce sales should avoid unclear condition and hidden risk.
- The buyer and seller need a clear item before completing the sale.
