Summary of Jami at-Tirmidhi Hadith 1450
This hadith about no cutting during battle is narrated by Busr bin Artah. He heard the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم say: “The hands are not cut in the battles.” The provided text then explains that some scholars acted on this by not carrying out the legal punishment during battle in the presence of the enemy, out of fear that the punished person might join the enemy. It also says that when the imam leaves the land of war and returns to the land of Islam, he carries out the punishment on the one who deserved it. So this report is not canceling legal responsibility. It is about timing and setting, as explained in the same input text.
What we learn from this hadith
- The hadith states that hands are not cut during battles.
- The report’s explanation connects this to fear of harm in wartime conditions.
- Delay in this case does not mean the offense is ignored.
- The timing of legal punishment can be affected by public safety.
